"We were never panicked at the idea of not having means- the less means we had, the more inventive we would get! And, we'd look at the film and say, "my God are they going to accept this?" Well, you know, they didn't! They came and said "oh my God this is not a film"... and then we were very happy!"
- Jean-Pierre Gorin (on his collaborations with Jean-Luc Godard)

Great stuff. The Dziga Vertov Group films are too often dismissed as bland propagandistic works, which is very easy to do since most people aren't even able to see them. But these films are, in their own strange way, as interesting, provocative and complex as Godard's more well-known 60s work. And as I recently wrote at my own site, Vladimir and Rosa at least is playful, satirical and, damn it, FUN, as is Tout va bien.
The 70s are Godard's lost decade, and this really needs to be corrected with some good DVD releases finally.
