We lost a tremendous filmmaker on Monday.
Eric Rohmer helped lead the French New Wave in the 1960's, and continued to make his classic brand of wise, romantic and human cinema into the digital 2000's. He absolutely influenced the generation of filmmakers that followed him, and you can see his spirit in the work of contemporaries like Noah Baumbach, Richard Linklater, and Andrew Bujalski.
I got my first taste of Rohmer only a few years ago when Criterion released his collection of films THE SIX MORAL TALES.
May he rest in peace.
